What Does it Take to Become a CMA?
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Or hold a professional certification. For a list of approved certifications, contact our team.
- If there is no bachelor’s degree, professional certification or experience, you can sit for the exams and fulfill educational and experience requirements within 7 years of passing.
Experience
- Requires two years of experience in management accounting and/or financial management.
- This requirement may be completed prior to or within 7 years of passing the exam
- Or continuous part-time positions of 20 hours per week*

- Pass the two-part exam administered by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA)

To pass, you’ll need a minimum score of 360 (on a scale of 0-500).
